Cuba

I went to Havana Cuba to attend my uncle’s 50th birthday. This was my family’s first time ever going to Cuba we had a lot of fun. It was very interesting and really cool. People outside of the USA tend to stay up very late. I couldn’t go to sleep because right under my hotel room there was an opera that went on till 2am, plus we didn’t eat dinner until almost 10pm every night!

The city is tad rundown and broken, but there are some really nice buildings and city squares with colorful buildings with interesting designs, reminds me a bit of Europe. You could tell that Havana was once very beautiful, it’s sad that it’s so rundown now. On one side it’s all nice and builds are well kept and on the other side it’s rundown and very poor, there is no middle area.

Havana has a lot of different cars. It has so many cars from the 1950’s. These cars were built from engines and pieces of other cars. Some cars are inefficient with diesel and leaded gas engines that the exhaust is so smoky it made me cough. We got to ride in a convertible 1955 Oldsmobile, none of the cars had seat-belts!!! They also have Taxis that are made from a bicycle that pulls two people behind. It was so fun when Uncle Jeffery and me went on one and there were five other people front of us (including my Mom and Dad) we were racing through the city at 11 pm at night!

The people in Havana are poor and some barely have enough money to have a house and have enough food, however they all seem very happy and not aware they have so little compared to us. There were a lot of different cultures, we went to a typical Cuban-African section of Havana to hear music and we saw several Chinese restaurants. The main language is Spanish.

The food was very different. In Cuba they had a lot of seafood, rice, and beans. The seafood was very good I liked white fish ceviche. The rest of the food was just OK.

In the end I would say I enjoyed my time in Havana. I probably won’t go again because there are so many other places to go in the world, but I recommend seeing Cuba.
